Februa
ry Youth ProgramFebruary 5 – We are making fleece lap blankets for homebound members of the congregation. It’s not hard, not to worry. Just come able to tie a knot and we’ll make five or six beautiful cozy blankets. We will meet in the youth room for lunch and then get to work. Have your parents pick you up at 3 p.m.
February 19 – We are teaming up with the Deacons to deliver the fleece blankets we made to homebound members. We will meet in Fellowship Hall for lunch and then break up into teams to deliver the blankets. We need as many of you as possible to make this happen, so please plan to help deliver the lap blankets! We will be back at the church so your parents can pick you up by 3 p.m., if not a tad earlier.
SUMMER Mission Trips in 2011
The senior high youth headed to Chinle, Arizona on this year’s mission trip, from June 18 to June 25.
The group flew in and out of Albuquerque, NM, about three hours southwest of Chinle. Chinle is located on the Navajo Indian Reservation and is the town at the opening of Canyon de Chelly (see below),
which features the White House Ruins (ancient cliff dwellings) and Spider Rock, a spectacular 800 foot red sandstone monolith.
The group stayed and worked at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Chinle. The youth group of that congregation worked alongside our group to create a Southwestern style Labyrinth called The Man in the Maze on the church’s property (see below).
We also worked at a home for persons with medically managed schizophrenia.
While on the Navajo Nation, we made and ate Fried Bread (see below), visited a sheep ranch and learned how traditional Navajo rugs are woven.
Four young people attended the Massanetta Middle School Conference July 12 – 15. The conference is held at the Massanetta Springs Camp and Conference Center located among the rolling hills of Harrisonburg, VA. It brings together over 300 youth and adults for worship, workshops, small groups and recreation. Karen Williams and Kelly Wiant accompanied Meredith, Sarah, Kylee and Carter to Massanetta.
Thank you for your prayers.
