Photo Gallery Our Mission at MSPC To proclaim & live the Good News of Jesus Christ by welcoming friend & stranger alike into our diverse & inclusive family of faith regardless of race or class or national origin or sexual orientation or worldly condition of any kind as we celebrate our gifts, work for justice & peace, reach out in mission & witness to God's transforming love (click on thumbnail photo to enlarge) Advent 2009 On Sunday December 20, 2009, Market Square marked the fourth Sunday of Advent, with the church resplendent with its Christmas decor. The Market Square Ringers, our bell choir, played an arrangement by Anna Laura Page of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen." Kelly Wiant-Thralls talked with the children about a peace Christmas tree. The sermon, by Jim Brown, entitled "Ave Maria" spoke of Mary, mother of Jesus. He also gave the story of how Franz Biebl came to compose his wonderful anthem "Ave Maria" which the Adult Choir sang, with Director of Music Eric Riley both directing, and singing the tenor solo. BISTRO 2009 On Sunday December 6, 2009, Market Square held the 20th Bistro. This annual event is, for many, the unofficial start of the Christmas season. Church members and friends volunteer their time, energies and cooking talents to make soup. The recipes for this year's soups are here. The photo gallery shows scenes of all phases of Bistro, from those who toil in the kitchen serving soup and washing dishes, to the servers who wait on tables, and--most importantly--the people who come and eat soup, all the while enjoying sweet music of the season. A Season of Consecration On Sunday September 20, 2009, General Assembly Moderator Bruce Reyes-Chow led worship. His sermon was the kick-off for the Season of Celebration which leads up to Consecration Sunday on November 8, 2009. Joining Bruce, in the first photo, is Executive Presbyter for the Presbytery of Carlisle, Mark Englund-Krieger. Bruce and Kelly hold the children of Market Square enthralled. Moderator Reyes-Chow greets parishioners after the service. Music Appreciation Cookout On Sunday June 21, 2009, Market Square Church held a picnic in appreciation for the music program. Over 100 church members, and friends, attended and enjoyed hamburgers, hotdogs, and cake. Especially cake. . .which all but disappeared. See Youth Photos here. |
