Market Square has a wonderful Shawl Ministry. We knit and crochet shawls and lap blankets to give comfort and fortitude to those going through difficult times or to celebrate special occasions. In the spring we make scarves in the high school or college colors to recognize our graduates. We gather monthly for prayer, fellowship, and assistance with pieces. It is encouraging to see how our dropped stitches and miscounted rows teach us about the Christian Life. We talk about those who will receive our gifts and we each pray a blessing over them.
The group meets on the 1st Saturday of the month in the Parlor (walk through the parking garage door, walk through the next door, turn left down the ramp to enter the Parlor). Meetings start at 10:00 a.m. and normally end by 11:30 a.m., during which time, we all knit together while seated on comfortable couches and seats. It’s a warm time of fellowship and laughter.
Please feel free to join us any first Saturday you are able to do so. Bring your knitting needles or crochet hook – we have plenty of yarn for you to use if you don’t have any. And, if you know anyone who needs something soft and warm to enfold them with love, please let one of the Shawl Ministry members know. Recipients do not have to be members of Market Square. We welcome anyone interested in sharing in this ministry. If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, we’ll teach you. Or maybe you are just interested in the fellowship we experience.
